CMA Manitoba February Luncheon Presents Morten Paulsen, Principal, Paulsen Group External Relations.Managing Crisis with Effective Media Relations The worldwide economic crisis means that marketing resources might decline at the very time when the ability to maintain a strong, reputable and resilient brand is more critical than ever.Examples of crisis management will be reviewed, (including the recent Maple Leaf Food listeriosis crisis), to determine some of the elements of effective crisis management; how those are relevant to economic crisis management; and how successful marketers will be those who understand the right ways to manage challenge, and the right tools for communications to critical audiences.
About the Speaker
Morten Paulsen, Principal, Paulsen Group External Relations
Mr. Paulsen served in various capacities for the Reform Party and Canadian Alliance, including Director of Public Relations, Director of Operations and National Campaign Manager. His involvement in politics also extends to the provincial and municipal levels where he has managed numerous campaigns and achieved success at driving legislative and policy change. In 2005, Mr. Paulsen was awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal for service to Alberta. After politics, Mr. Paulsen set up a successful consultancy serving clients ranging from professional associations, to First Nations, medical campaigns, and oil and gas. Paulsen is widely recognised as a senior voice in media relations in Calgary and is regularly called upon as a print and electronic commentator and blogger on issues ranging from politics to professional communications. Paulsen joined Fleishman-Hillard in 2006 to launch Fleishman's Calgary office, and took the lead on a range of high profile communications initiatives in Calgary and nationally, including crisis communications, financial sector branding and regulatory, and leading the awareness and reputation campaign in Canada for one of the world's largest oil and gas producers. In 2009, Paulsen formed Paulsen Group with a number of well established consultants, to focus specifically on the media, crisis and government relations that will be critical to business in a time of financial restructuring and challenge. Paulsen holds a B.A. from the University of Calgary and an M.A. from the University of California at Davis.
