Manitobans Know About Twitter But Few Use It Themselves

A survey conducted for the Manitoba Chapter of the Canadian Marketing Association (CMA MB) by Probe Research Inc. found that nine-in-ten Manitoba adults (91 per cent) say they have heard of Twitter but few use it themselves.

Local Marketing Community Urges Manitoba Business to Support Local Talent

A recent announcement that Travel Manitoba has awarded a Vancouver-based agency, DDB Canada, as its new Agency Of Record has many in the advertising and marketing industry asking questions.

Twitter Penetration Rate in Canada

Twitter is the micro-blogging, social media-hyped, information superhighway broadcast tool that is now used by a measly 1.45% of the Canadian Internet population: some 350,000 people. In contrast, 19% of Americans tweet representing about 55% (19 million) of the 45 million worldwide Twitter users [2].

When the World Stops Clicking

Only 16% of Internet users click on display ads, with half of those making up 85% of total clicks. The click rate has dropped 50% in the last two years, begging the question of their value. Since banner advertising is a major source of revenue for many websites, this drop is affecting the bottom line. But all is not lost. Much like billboards on a highway, banner ads still place a brand's name in the consumer's mind. Users who simply saw a banner ad were 65% more likely to visit the brand's site within one week. In terms of measurement, the click through rate is losing value. However, the value of exposure is still there.

Mobile advertising to grow 74% in 2009: Report

A new Gartner report projects that worldwide mobile ad spending will grow 74% this year to $913.5 million U.S. but not really accelerate until 2011, when advertisers are expected to boost mobile spending as part of an overall shift toward digital marketing channels.
